JOB SUMMARY
The Childcare Group Teacher is responsible for the education, development and support services rendered to children from 6-weeks old to 12-years old. The Daycare Teacher will ensure that the children will have a daily experience allowing them to play, learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure the room, furniture and items in the room have been cleaned and sanitized per the Center of Disease Control (CDC) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) guidelines and that the information has been documented.
Children arriving or showing signs of becoming ill during the day will be taken to the Nurses Office immediately.
Depending on the age of the children in the room, structure an appropriate schedule of experience’s in the classroom using methods such as large group, small group, as well as independent opportunities.
Provide the children adequate exercise/play and rest throughout the day. Ensure the children are eating a healthy snack and lunch.Teach children to follow the rules and procedures in the classroom and building. Monitor the behaviors of the children and communicates all progress and concerns with the Childcare Coordinator/Administration.
Build and maintain a positive relationship with the parents/guardians.Maintain required paperwork regarding attendance, incident reports and other necessary records.
Maintain a positive relationship with the children and encourage the children to do the same on a daily basis.Meet the emotional, social, physical needs of each child. Process any accident reports according to the agency’s policy.
Report any suspect abuse to Childcare Coordinator, Principal, RN, or Administration, and call Child Protective Service if advised.
Inspect and replace damaged or lost toys, furniture and other classroom materials.Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program
regulations and policies.Keep all appropriate records such as attendance, goals and notable comments.
Support other Daycare staff when needed.
Employee maintains appropriate records according to agency policies, completing records and reports in a timely manner.
Practices in accordance to agency standards and professional conduct and ethics by respecting confidentiality of the children and family information as well as demonstrating effective problem solving and decision-making abilities in conjunction with other team members.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Trains and supervises Childcare Group Assistants in appropriate methods of support and classroom management.
Participates in completing Performance Appraisal Form for Childcare Group Assistants.
Regularly meets with the Childcare Coordinator.
OTHER DUTIES
Perform such other duties as delegated by Administration. (may not be essential)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A minimum of an Associate Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development plus one-year experience related to caring for infants and toddlers required.
Trained in CPR/First Aid and maintained according to Red Cross standards.
Clearance from Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) which includes NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Statewide Central Register Database Check and NYS Justice Center.
Ability to provide documentation demonstrating that you are able to legally perform work in the United States.
Valid NYS Driver’s License.

Ability to work effectively with children who may or may not have varying disabilities as well as families and agency staff.
The employee demonstrates basic knowledge of human growth and development and is able to apply that knowledge in a holistic manner when planning educational programming for children.
The employee displays understanding of the roles and responsibilities of all other staff, demonstrating effective problem solving and decision-making abilities in collaboration with the other team members and administration.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment with staff members and administration.
Knowledge of effective learning environment, classroom organization and management techniques.
Will successfully complete required training courses.
Ability to work effectively with parents/guardians, agency staff and community agencies.

Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds consistently throughout the day.
Ability to physically respond to students requiring behavioral or crisis interventions; within parameters of NYSED, OCFS, and PBIS.
Ability to react quickly, which may include but is not limited to stooping, bending, sitting, standing, stretching, walking and running.
May be exposed to various weather conditions.
Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
