We Listen, Learn & Grow with You
We Have an Unwavering Belief in the Potential of Every Person who Comes Through our Doors
We listen to our clients, their families and loved ones to help them create a plan to live out the life they imagine for themselves. We are all human and each of us has dreams and aspirations. Our clients need assistance to overcome challenges they face in everyday life. Some challenges are very difficult and our licensed professionals have the expertise and experience to treat them. All of our programs, services and staff focus on teaching-learning, growth and self sufficiency to the best of one’s ability. Sixty years of experience helping people overcome challenges allows us to offer not only hope but effective strategies to foster ability into capability.
We aim to be flexible and responsive in our service provision so to continue to meet the needs of children, adults and families for the next 60 years to come.
We teach people of all ages the skills they will need to live their life to the best of their ability.
Our focus is on ABILITY, not disability. Consumers of our services and programs are at work every day here in our community, living life with quality and independent lifestyles built with our encouragement and support. This focus remains at the forefront of the E. John Gavras Center’s work to assist individuals with developmental and physical disabilities and their families.
66 years ago in Auburn NY, a caring community and its leadership built the E. John Gavras Center so that this community’s children would have access to local services to help them overcome special needs or challenges they may face in life; helping them to achieve the highest quality of life. Over a decade ago services expanded to include school age children and adults creating a continuum of care for individuals as they transition through critical life stages.
We strive to be leaders in direct care service provision with programming of the highest quality for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. All of our efforts are to serve individuals so that they may attain set goals and reach their aspirations of life.
Direct Care Services are operated under the New York State Office of Persons With Developmental Disabilities. Periodically program names change as well as guidelines for operations.
