JOB SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintain the accessibility and appearance of the school building. The Housekeeper works independently and as part of the maintenance team. Assignment's will vary greatly and may include multiple daily assignments, special projects, furniture relocation, and event set up. Cleanliness of the classrooms, motor room area, therapy areas, hallways, office areas and bathrooms of the North Street Building. Also maintain outdoor areas as necessary. May be called on to assist at other facility locations; Cranebrook or Cayuga Elementary as needed.

  • Cleans all surface areas, removes all trash and debris, as well as recycling.

  • Clean and disinfect trash cans and replace trash bags.

  • Clean and disinfect countertops, tabletops, sinks and faucets, cubbies, and

    window ledges.

  • Cleans all bathroom surface areas, bathroom partitions, mirrors, sinks, toilets,

    all flooring surfaces on a daily basis.

  • Vacuums carpet, dusts and polishes interior and exterior of room furniture;

    cleans all mirrors, glass tops, and interior windows on a daily basis.

  • Follows cleaning protocols including use of appropriate equipment, hygiene

    and disinfection chemicals, as well as management and removal of waste.

  • Participates in all required training opportunities.

  • Reports any non-functioning fixtures, electrical outlets, and damage within

    assigned areas, utilizing internal work order system, and verbally reporting to

    supervisor.

  • Reports any safety hazards immediately to Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Collects and turns in all lost or found articles.

  • Moves and repositions furniture within rooms, from one building to another,

    including multi-storied buildings.

  • Removes snow from main entry ways in assigned work areas, using shovels.

  • Serve as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for

    students and maintaining healthy boundaries in professional relationships with

    all school community members and staff.

  • Requisitions needed supplies for assigned work areas.

  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned.

  • In the classrooms clean and disinfect chairs and stack on tables.

  • Clean and disinfect all/any hard surfaces being used/touched, i.e. door

    knobs/handles. These areas need to be sanitized as often as possible.

  • Vacuum all areas of the building including corners and baseboards daily.

  • Clean and disinfect all bathrooms daily. This includes mopping the floors, cleaning the sinks, mirrors, wipe down all surfaces, empty all trash cans and replace trash bags.

  • Clean and disinfect toilets and flush valves inside and out. Clean and disinfect walls and partitions.

  • Clean and disinfect all sinks in any lunchrooms and classrooms daily. Wipe down areas around the sinks.

  • Wipe down and sanitize all water fountains daily.

  • Check toilet paper, soap, and paper towels dispensers in the bathrooms daily

    and replace as necessary.

  • Clean the Reception Room area daily.

  • Clean the dryer vent daily.

  • Clean and disinfect all mats and equipment used daily. Stand mats up to dry.

  • Clean all windows in entry ways of building.

  • Dust the offices twice a week.

  • Thoroughly clean the windows twice a year or as scheduled by the

    Maintenance Supervisor.

• Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or General Equivalent Diploma (GED) is required.

  • Previous experience preferred (1-3 years) in custodial work, professional cleaning or related industry.

  • Knowledge of various cleaning techniques and equipment, including use of automatic floor machines, vacuums, wet mops, and chemical dilution systems.

  • Demonstrate a strong ability to complete assigned responsibilities in a self- directed manner, while also exhibiting flexibility with team approaches to assigned work.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and follow instructions.

  • Must possess some minimum proficiency with basic computer skills for supply

    ordering, utilizing work order systems, and keeping abreast with school

    communications and requests, via email.

  • Ability to sustain a high degree of individual accountability, attention to detail,

    and flexibility with assigned work and schedule.

  • Ability and eagerness to positively interact and communicate with students,

    staff, faculty and visitiors from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to efficiently complete assigned work within normally scheduled hours;

    as well as some pre-approved overtime and emergency duties as needed.

  • Report to work during inclement weather as essential staff, providing

    continuum and/pr emergent service support when there is a direct impact to the safety, welfare and ability for the School to continue core operations.

  • Must be able to obtain clearance through Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) which includes: NYS Department of Criminal Justice Services, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Statewide Central Register Database Check and NYS Justice Center.

  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and be registered through the License Event Notification System (LENS).

  • Trained in CPR/First Aid.

  • Must provide up-to-date immunization and medical information including a Tuberculosis (TB) test which was taken within the past 12 months.

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

  • Deadlines, projects and unanticipated developments may occasionally require

    work during evenings, weekends or holidays.

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, bend, stoop,

    reach and kneel to perform essential functions.

  • Ability to climb up flights of stairs and use ladders.

  • Required to wear as directed, appropriate face mask while performing job

    responsibilities and while present in public spaces on campus.

  • Required to work in a tobacco-free environment.

  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.

  • Ability to move or lift up to 40 lbs.

  • May be exposed to various weather conditions.
